American League
■ Indians 5, Red Sox 4, 11 innings — At Cleveland, Michael Brantley singled in the winning run in the 11th inning and Cleveland beat the Red Sox to delay Boston’s bid for a club-record 106th victory and home-field advantage throughout the postseason.
■ Yankees 3, Orioles 2, 11 innings — At New York, Aaron Hicks doubled home the winning run in the 11th inning and New York clinched an AL wild card. The Yankees will make their 54th postseason appearance — 21 more than any other team.
■ Athletics 3, Twins 2 — At Oakland, Calif., Stephen Piscotty scored on Trevor Hildenberger’s wild pitch in the ninth inning and Oakland cut its magic number to clinch a playoff berth to one with its second straight walk-off win over Minnesota.
■ Mariners 13, Rangers 0
— At Arlington, Texas, Robinson Cano broke a scoreless tie with a three-run homer in the fifth inning, Marco Gonzales (13-9) allowed one hit over six innings but Seattle was eliminated from postseason contention.
■ Astros 10, Angels 5 — At Houston, Justin Verlander struck out 11 in six dominant innings, Jose Altuve capped a nine-run eighth with a two-run homer and Houston rallied past Los Angeles.
■ Blue Jays 5, Rays 2 — At Toronto, rookie left-hander Thomas Pannone (4-1) pitched 6⅔ innings to win his third straight start, Rowdy Tellez homered and drove in three and Toronto dealt another blow to Tampa Bay’s faint playoff hopes.
■ Tigers 5, Royals 4 — At Detroit, Mikie Mahtook hit a tworun homer in the eighth inning and Detroit beat Kansas City in Victor Martinez’s final major league game.
National League
■ Pirates 3, Brewers 0 — At Pittsburgh, Milwaukee’s offense was stymied when Trevor Williams (149) combined with three relievers on a five-hitter that led Pittsburgh to a win.
■ Cardinals 5, Giants 4, 10 innings — At St. Louis, Tyler O’Neill hit a solo home run with two outs in the 10th inning and St. Louis won for the fifth time in six games.
■ Rockies 5, Diamondbacks
1 — At Phoenix, Antonio Senzatela (6-6) allowed three hits in seven strong innings and Colorado kept pace in its playoff push. The Diamondbacks have lost 11 of their last 14 games.
■ Dodgers 7, Padres 2 — At Los Angeles, Manny Machado slugged a three-run homer on his bobblehead night to highlight a five-run third inning and Los Angeles defeated San Diego.
■ Nationals 6, Mets 0 — At Washington, rookie Austin Voth and four relievers combined on a onehitter and Washington won hours after it was officially eliminated from playoff contention.
■ Marlins 5, Reds 1 — At Miami, Austin Dean homered and drove in three runs and five Miami pitchers combined on a six-hitter to beat Cincinnati. The Reds fell to 8-24 on the road since mid-July.
Interleague
■ Cubs 8, White Sox 3 — At Chicago, Javier Baez homered and the Cubs took advantage of huge mistake by White Sox outfielder Ryan LaMarre to increase their lead in the NL Central.
