Lois I. Jones, 83, passed away peacefully in Joplin, Mo., Wednesday, September 19, 2018, surrounded by family. Lois was born March 2, 1935 in Springfiel­d, Mo. to Nellie and Leo Buchanan. She grew up with four brothers, Gordon, Ray, Wendell and Charles; and two sisters, Wilma and Alice. Lois excelled in school with a keen interest in music and graduated as valedictor­ian of her class. Lois also met and married her high school sweetheart, Harold Dean Jones. They raised a wonderful family consisting of two girls and three boys. The family moved to Las Vegas 1969. Lois worked several years as a police dispatcher for the City of Henderson. She was a voracious reader, an excellent cook and maintained a keen interest in music. Las Vegas allowed her to see many of her favorite artists in live performanc­es. After her retirement from Henderson Police Department, Lois returned to her roots in Missouri where she was close to family in the country near Joplin. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Nellie Buchanan; brothers, Gordon, Ray and Charles Buchanan; sister, Wilma Tuckness; youngest son, John Jones; former husband and good friend, Harold (Hal) Jones; and grandchild­ren, Haley Jones and Shellie Hulet. She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Jensen (DC) and Melanie Nelson; sons Bart Jones (Bonnie) and Kevin Jones (Holly); sister, Alice Serrano (Mel); brother, Wendell Buchanan; nine grandchild­ren; and 12 great-grandchild­ren. A Celebratio­n of her Life will be scheduled for late spring 2019. Any donations may be directed to your favorite animal rescue shelter.
