Ronaldo goal gets applause, boos amid allegation of rape
Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal in a 2-0 victory for Juventus over Udinese was met by applause and boos in Udine, Italy, as the international soccer star faces a rape allegation.
He leaped into the air with an emphatic double fist pump, as he’s often marked his goals, and then let his teammates congratulate him.
Just over a week ago, Kathryn Mayorga filed a civil lawsuit saying she was raped by Ronaldo in Las Vegas in 2009. Police have reopened an investigation. Ronaldo has denied the accusation. He was not available for questions after the match.
■ Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho lashed out at his critics after his team’s thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Newcastle in Manchester, England, calling the attacks against him “wickedness” and “man-hunting.”
United’s manager has been under mounting speculation he’ll be fired because of a string of poor results and for frequent verbal attacks on his own players, but he came out fighting after the team earned its first win in five matches.
■ Ever Guzman scored two goals, and San Antonio FC went on to a 3-1 victory over Lights FC at San Antonio.
Sammy Ochoa gave the Lights (7-18-7) the lead in the 12th minute. But Guzman equalized just before halftime and put San Antonio (1412-7) up for good in the 48th minute.
