MATTHEW SHERWOOD
Matthew Graver Sherwood, 57, of Las Vegas, unexpectedly passed away Sunday September 30, 2018. Matt was born in Milwaukee, as the youngest of five. He grew up in Chicago, Aurora, Colo., and San Diego, Calif. He was proud to attend Mission Bay Senior High in San Diego before going on to graduate with a degree in Public Relations at California State University in Bakersfield. In his broadcast career, he covered notable events including Oklahoma City, Columbine, the OJ trial, and many more. Matt frequently spoke of the intense emotional impact he felt from covering these events. He finished his career working as an editor with his Channel 8 KLAS-TV team. His life work was honored when he was inducted into the Nevada Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2007. Outside of work, Matt was found around the table with his friends and fellow club members building model airplanes and cars. Matt loved modeling and was active throughout the years as a club officer. Matt was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Edwin Sherwood; and his sisters, Susan Saari and Megan Sherwood-Pollard. Matt will be lovingly remembered by his older brothers, Patrick and Michael; as well as his nieces and nephews, Elizabeth and Ian Ramirez, Kevin, Keli and Max Sherwood, Kiley and AJ Pollard, and Owen and Shannon Sherwood. A Celebration of Life Service honoring Matt will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday October 9, at the Palm Eastern Mortuary, at 7600 S. Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at the Folded Flag Foundation.
