Barbara Bair Kosty died May 4, 2019, of complicati­ons from pneumonia. Born in Topeka, KS July 4, 1932, she was the child of Paul Vernon and Margaret Elizabeth Bair, and older sister to Dan Bair. Barbara attended the LoomisChaf­fee School in Windsor, CT and the Hartford College for Women, before graduating with an English and teaching degree from Washburn University, KS. Shortly after graduation she married Sam Kosty, a marriage that would last more than 63 years. The couple raised two children, Paul and Pam, in CT and CA. Barbara received her CA teaching certificat­ion from USC. (Years later, she earned a Liberal Arts MA from Middlebury College, CT.) She was passionate about literature and grammar and loved teaching. She taught at several schools, including in Glendale, CA; at LoomisChaf­fee; the School Year Abroad program in Rennes, France; and the Bishop’s School in San Diego. After retirement, she was a volunteer docent at the San Diego Museum of Art and outreach volunteer for the San Diego Opera. She and Sam moved to Henderson, NV in 2003. Barbara had an unstoppabl­e creative and artistic energy, and was an excellent cook, a talented seamstress, needlepoin­t artist, and jewelry and card maker. She was a voracious reader, a bridge and mahjong player, and a crossword puzzle aficionado. She and Sam traveled the world. She leaves behind her husband and two children, and four grandchild­ren: Lauren and Gina Kosty, and Gregory and Margaret Back. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Fri., May 31, at Saint Gabriel Byzantine Church, 2250 E. Maule Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89119. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Loomis-Chaffee School, Windsor, CT, or Saint Gabriel Byzantine Church.
