Suncoast Bowling Center to host PBA50 Tour major

Profession­al Bowlers Associatio­n Hall of Famer Walter Ray Williams Jr. takes a three-match win streak and a 10,000-point lead in the PBA50 Tour points race into the PBA Senior U.S. Open, scheduled for Sunday through Friday at Suncoast Bowling Center.

Williams, 59, who holds the PBA Tour titles record of 47, will try for a record 15th PBA50 Tour title in the season’s third major. Also, Hall of Famers Pete Weber, Amleto Monacelli and Tom Baker will try to become the first threetime winner of the Senior U.S. Open.

■ Hockey: At Rosemont, Ill., Andrew Poturalski scored his 11th and 12th goals of the postseason as the Charlote Checkers won the Calder Cup with a 5-3 victory over the Chicago Wolves in Game 5 of the best-of-seven series. Gage Quinney had a goal and an assist for Golden Knights’ American Hockey League affiliate, which never led in the clinching game.

■ Track and field: At Austin, Texas, UNLV sophomore Avi’Tal Wilson-Perteete placed third in the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 2.20 seconds at the NCAA Outdoor Championsh­ips, the Rebels’ best showing in the meet since 2012.

■ NFL: The New York Jets hired their fourth general manager in the past eight years, luring Philadelph­ia vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas with a reported six-year deal.

■ College baseball: Louisville (49-16) became the first team to qualify for this year’s World Series, sweeping its NCAA Super Regional with East Carolina.
