Ortiz leaves hospital following surgeries for gunshot wound

-

Former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is out of the hospital following three surgeries after being shot in the back at a bar in the Dominican Republic.

The Red Sox said they’ve been told Ortiz was released from Massachusetts General Hospital. The team said there will be an update on his condition next week.

ESPN reported the 43-yearold Ortiz has been home since Friday and will continue his recovery there.

Ortiz had been at the Boston hospital since June 10, a day after he was shot. Dominican police have said he was mistaken for another man who was sitting near him at the club.

■ Yankees: AL batting leader DJ LeMahieu was out of the New York Yankees’ lineup for Saturday’s game against the Boston Red Sox.

Manager Aaron Boone said “he’s got a little tightness in his groin,” which the infielder felt during Friday’s loss to the Red Sox. Boone said LeMahieu had an MRI on Saturday and the club is awaiting the results before making any decision regarding a trip to the injured list.

■ Royals: Kansas City traded left-handed reliever Jake Diekman to the Oakland Athletics for two minor league prospects. Diekman is 0-6 with a 4.75 ERA in 48 relief appearances this season, but he has allowed just one run in his last six outings.

■ Braves: Atlanta placed right fielder Nick Markakis and infielder Dansby Swanson on the 10-day injured list.

Markakis suffered a broken left wrist when he was hit by a pitch Friday night. Manager Brian Snitker said Markakis won’t need surgery and could return in six to eight weeks.

■ Twins: Minnesota acquired reliever Sergio Romo, minor league pitcher Chris Vallimont and a player to be named for first base prospect Lewin Diaz.

■ Mets: Former Las Vegas 51s slugger Dominic Smith was been placed on the 10-day injured list with a stress reaction in his left foot.
