A Las Vegas-based company made its first appearance at CES this week to showcase Alertnest, an app dedicated to community safety.

Alertnest is an all-in-one app that collects and sends alerts about about crime, traffic and local events. It’s much smarter than that, though.

“This whole design of this is experiential because it learns what you care about and it’s only going to give you what you care about,” Alertnest CEO and President Becky Wanta said.

The app pays attention to users’ activity to tailor alerts to their interests, Wanta said. She said that data can also help track trends showing what people care about in different communities.

“Local to us means to the individual, but in a non-creepy way, since it learns where you are,” Wanta said. “It’s intended to tell you exactly what’s happening all around you.”

Wanta said the company plans to keep making Alertnest smarter, with future updates to include E-911 service, weather and breaking news. The next update should roll out in a few weeks.

“And eventually I’ll push this information to your car, so when you’re driving down Desert Inn you won’t go down Valley View if it’s blocked off, because you’ll know instantly.”

The end goal is to create a social media app that will allow users to report their own incidents as well.

Alertnest is currently available in the Google Play and Apple App stores. The crime and event map can also be found at Alertnest.com.
