■ Hurricanes 6, MAPLE LEAFS 3: Carolina was forced to use emergency goaltender David Ayres, 42, against Toronto after both of its netminders left with injuries. Ayres allowed two goals on three shots in the final 8:41 of the second period before saving all six shots he faced in the third in route to a win.

■ DEVILS 3, Capitals 2:

Damon Severson scored the winning goal to back Mackenzie Blackwood, who stopped 33 shots. Alex Ovechkin became the eighth NHL player to score 700 career goals, reaching the milestone in the third period.

■ FLYERS 4, Jets 2: Scott Laughton scored two goals to lead streaking Philadelph­ia, which won its third straight. The Flyers are 21-5-4 at home and moved into third place in the Metropolit­an Division.

■ SABRES 5, Penguins 2:

Jack Eichel scored twice to back Connor Hutton, who had 41 saves. It was Buffalo’s second regulation win over Pittsburgh in the last seven years.

■ RANGERS 3, Sharks 2:

Jesper Fast scored twice to back rookie Igor Shesterkin, who stopped 44 shots to extend his winning streak to seven games.

■ PREDATORS 4, Blue Jackets 3 (SO): Rocco Grimaldi scored in the eighth round of the shootout and Juuse Saros, made 40 saves, not counting six in the shootout.

■ COYOTES 7, Lightning 3:

Clayton Keller and Conor Garland each had two goals and an assist. Antti Raanta had 27 saves as Arizona won its third straight.

■ Canadiens 3, SENATORS 0:

Max Domi scored a pair of goals and Carey Price made 30 stops for his fourth shutout.

■ CANUCKS 9, Bruins 3:

Tyler Toffoli scored his first two goals with his new team and added an assist and Jacob Markstrom stopped 34 shots.

■ Avalanche 2, KINGS 1 (SO): Jonas Donskoi scored the lone goal in the shootout, backing Pavel Francouz, who stopped 20 of 21 shots in regulation.
