Tiz the Law cruises to win, gets Kentucky Derby berth

Tiz the Law ran away in the stretch to easily win the Florida Derby at Miami’s Gulfstream Park, clinching a Kentucky Derby berth.

Shivaree, an 80-1 long shot, was second. Fans were not allowed at the track, and owners were told to stay away because of the coronaviru­s pandemic.

■ Cristiano Ronaldo, his Juventus teammates and coach Maurizio Sarri agreed to forgo $100 million — four months worth of wages, one-third of players’ salaries — to help the club during the coronaviru­s crisis.

■ James Dolan, the executive chairman of Madison Square Garden Co. and owner of the New York Knicks, has tested positive for the coronaviru­s, the team announced Saturday night. It is not clear when Dolan, 64, was tested or when he received the diagnosis.

Perhaps no coach in college basketball is better at having his team peak in the postseason than the Michigan State head coach. He proved his mettle again by leading the Spartans to the Final Four in the Review-Journal’s What If Tournament.

Xavier Tillman had 14 points and nine rebounds, but it was a defensive stop that helped send Michigan State to Atlanta as the second-seeded Spartans held on for an 85-83 win over No. 8 Florida in the East Region final.

The Gators trailed 82-73 after Tillman’s 3-pointer with 3:52 remaining. Keyontae Johnson scored five points on a 10-2 run to get Florida within a point with 1:03 to play.

Aaron Henry made 1 of 2 from the line for the Spartans before Ques Glover missed a pair of 3-point attempts that would have given Florida the lead before Hall was fouled, setting up the last chance for the Gators.

Cassius Winston had 17 points and seven assists to lead five Michigan State players in double figures.
