- Review-Journal wire services

Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson agreed to a four-year, $160 million contract extension.

The deal makes the 24-year-old the NFL’s second-highest paid quarterback, behind Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, who signed a 10year deal in July worth up to $503 million.

The Texans traded up to select Watson with the 12th pick in the 2017 draft. He has appeared in 38 games with 37 starts in three seasons, throwing for 9,716 yards and 71 touchdowns and running for 1,233 yards and 14 TDs.

Watson threw for 3,852 yards and 26 TDs in 2019, when he led Houston to the divisional round of the playoffs.

■ Chargers: Wide receiver Keenan Allen signed a four-year extension worth $80.1 million, with $50 million guaranteed, making the 28-year-old the league’s second highest-paid receiver in average annual salary. Entering his eighth season, Allen has made the past three Pro Bowls. His 104 receptions in 2019 broke his franchise record for single-season catches, and he was second in the AFC in yards receiving with 1,199. Allen is one of three NFL receivers with more than 300 catches and 3,700 yards receiving over the past three seasons.

■ Bills: Cornerback Tre’Davious White agreed to a four-year, $70 million extension, with $55 million guaranteed, making the 25-year-old Louisiana State product the league’s top-paid corner by average annual salary. A first-round draft pick in 2017, White was an All-Pro in 2019, when he ranked second among qualifiers in passer rating allowed in coverage.

■ Seahawks: Linebacker Shaquem Griffin was waived. The 25-year-old, who had his left hand amputated at age 4 because of a congenital condition, became the first player with one hand to be drafted in the NFL’s modern era when Seattle chose him in the fifth round in 2018. A regular on special teams, he had 16 tackles in 32 regular-season games.

■ Jaguars: Veteran quarterbacks Mike Glennon and Josh Dobbs were cut, leaving rookie sixth-round draft pick Jake Luton as Gardner Minshew’s backup. Like Minshew, Luton was a college journeyman — beginning at Idaho before playing a season at a California community college and then spending three years at Oregon State.

■ Buccaneers: Guard John Molchon, who played at Faith Lutheran and Boise State, made the team’s roster as an undrafted free agent but will go on injured reserve Sunday because of a knee injury that is not expected to end his season, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

■ Colts: Tight end Xavier Grimble, a Bishop Gorman product, was released. The 27-year-old signed with Indianapolis in December after four seasons with Pittsburgh. Also, wide receiver Parris Campbell was activated from the league’s concussion protocol.

■ Washington: Alex Smith gained a 53-man roster spot as a third-string quarterback behind Dwayne Haskins and Kyle Allen. The 36-year-old suffered a broken tibia and fibula in November 2018, leading to 17 surgeries and a near amputation.

■ Titans: Free-agent defensive end Jadeveon Clowney agreed to a one-year, $12 million deal. The 27-year-old three-time Pro Bowl selection spent last season with Seattle after five years with Houston and has 32 sacks in 75 games.

■ 49ers: Wide receiver Deebo Samuel (broken foot) was activated from the nonfootball injury list, meaning the second-year starter won’t be sidelined for the season’s first eight weeks.

Patriots: Veteran Nick Folk and rookie fifth-round draft pick Justin Rohrwasser were released, for now leaving the team without a kicker.
