No. 1 Clemson 49, The Citadel 0:
■ At Clemson, S.C., Trevor Lawrence was 8 of 9 passing for 168 yards and three TDs for the Tigers (2-0), who held the Bulldogs (0-2) to 86 yards of offense. Lawrence, who also ran for a TD, played only one series into the second quarter. The shutout was the Tigers’ first since a 31-0 win over Ohio State in a 2016 playoff semifinal.
No. 7 Notre Dame 52, South Florida 0: At South Bend, Ind., Ian Book ran for three firsthalf TDs, leading the Fighting Irish (2-0) to a 35-0 intermission edge in their 20th straight home win. The Bulls (1-1) mustered 231 yards of offense, including 65 in the first half. C’Bo Flemister ran for 127 yards for Notre Dame.
■ No. 14 Central Florida 49, Georgia Tech 21: At Atlanta, Dillon Gabriel threw for 417 yards and four TDs, two each to Tre Nixon and Marlon Williams, for the Knights (1-0), who raced to a 28-7 lead. Freshman Jahmyr Gibbs scored two TDs for the Yellow Jackets (1-1) and set up another with a 75-yard kickoff return.
No. 25 Pittsburgh 21, Syracuse 10:
At Pittsburgh, Kenny Pickett threw for 215 yards and two TDs and ran for a score for the Panthers (2-0, 1-0), who held the Orange (0-2, 0-2) to 171 yards of offense — 69 on backup QB Rex Culpepper’s second-quarter TD strike to Taj Harris. Pitt notched seven sacks but was assessed seven penalties and missed three field goals.
■ North Carolina State 45, Wake Forest 42: At Raleigh, N.C., Ricky Person Jr. ran for 99 yards and two TDs for the Wolfpack (1-0, 1-0), including a go-ahead 3-yard score with 5:51 left. Person also threw up jump-pass TD near the goal line in the third quarter. Kenneth Walker III ran for 131 yards and three TDs, including a 2-yard wildcat keeper that put the Demon Deacons (0-2, 0-2) up 42-38.
■ Boston College 26, Duke 6: At Durham, N.C., Phil Jurkovec threw for 300 yards and two TDs for the Eagles (1-0, 1-0), who gave Jeff Hafley a win in his first game as coach. Hafley was Ohio State’s co-defensive coordinator in 2019. Zay Flowers had 162 yards receiving for Boston College, including a 61-yard TD catch in the third quarter. Chase Brice threw for 217 yards with two interceptions for the Blue Devils (0-2, 0-2).
