- Las Vegas Review-Journal

1968 December 22: Raiders 41, Chiefs 6—

Two years after baseball’s Kansas City Athletics moved to Oakland, creating a fair amount of ill will between the cities, the Chiefs and Raiders finished the regular-season 12-2 and faced each other in a playoff game to decide who would advance to play the New York Jets in the AFL championship game. The Raiders dominated.

January 1: Chiefs 17, Raiders 7 — After sweeping Kansas City during the regular season, the Raiders faced off against the Chiefs again in the last AFL championship game. Kansas City’s defense swarmed Oakland and forced four interceptions to help the Chiefs to the win. The Chiefs went on to beat the heavily favored Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV a week later.

■ November 1: Raiders 17, Chiefs 17 — Kansas City’s Len Dawson ran for a first down that appeared to clinch the victory only to have the Raiders’ Ben Davidson spear him after the whistle. Davidson then was mauled by the Chiefs’ Otis Taylor, touching off a brawl. Offsetting penalties negated Dawson’s run. Kansas City punted, and George Blanda’s 48-yard field goal with eight seconds left forged the tie.

October 12: Raiders 42, Chiefs 10 — The Chiefs’ victory wasn’t memorable in itself, although the rout produced perhaps the most famous quote in the long rivalry. The Chiefs’ equine mascot Warpaint circled the field after each Kansas City touchdown, prompting this gem from Raiders coach John Madden: “We couldn’t beat the Chiefs, but we damn near killed their horse.”

2017 October 19: Raiders 31, Chiefs 30 —

The Chiefs and Raiders met in a Thursday night matchup that the Raiders won after Kansas City was penalized twice for defensive penalties on what would have been the final play, giving the Raiders two untimed downs to pull out a win. The rivals scuffled yet again. Raiders star running back Marshawn Lynch was ejected.
