No. 13 West Virginia upends No. 12 Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — Sean McNeil and No. 13 West Virginia erased a 19-point second-half deficit and then withstood a flurry of last-second misses to edge No. 12 Texas 84-82 on Saturday.

McNeil played only two minutes in the first half after picking up two fouls and scored all 16 of his points after the break. He also committed two turnovers in the final 11 seconds, giving the Longhorns (13-6, 7-5 Big 12) a chance.

Miles McBride had 17 points for the Mountainee­rs (15-6, 8-4 Big 12), who were down 62-43 early in the second half. Courtney Ramey hit 7 of 8 3-point tries and totaled 28 points for Texas.

With the Longhorns down two with eight seconds left, Matt Coleman III missed the front end of a one-andone free-throw situation for Texas. The Longhorns got the ball back, but Andrew Jones’ 3-point try rimmed out with four seconds left.

Texas had one last try, with three-tenths of a second left, on an inbounds pass after Jones missed. But Jericho Sims missed inside after taking a lob pass from Coleman, who had 20 points and seven assists.

Texas shot 70 percent while taking a 53-43 halftime lead. The 6-foot-10-inch Sims had four dunks and a layup in the first six minutes.

■ No. 1 Gonzaga 106, San Diego 69: At Spokane, Wash., Drew Timme scored 17 of his 21 points in the first half for the Bulldogs (22-0, 13-0 West Coast), who buried the Toreros (3-8, 2-5) for their 26th straight win and 49th in a row at home.

■ No. 5 Illinois 94, Minnesota 63: At Minneapoli­s, Ayo Dosunmu had 19 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds for the Illini (15-5, 12-3 Big Ten), who shot 56 percent. The Gophers (13-10, 6-10) were outscored 31-8 on the fast break.

■ Duke 66, No. 7 Virginia 65: At Durham, N.C., Matthew Hurt had 22 points for the Blue Devils (10-8, 8-6 Atlantic Coast), who went ahead to stay with 1:58 left. Jay Huff had 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Cavaliers (15-5, 11-3).

■ No. 8 Alabama 82, Vanderbilt 78: At Tuscaloosa, Ala., Jaden Shackelfor­d had 27 points for the Crimson Tide (18-5, 13-1 Southeaste­rn) to offset Scotty Pippen Jr.’s 24 points for the Commodores (6-12, 2-10).

■ No. 9 Oklahoma 66, Iowa State 56: At Ames, Iowa, Austin Reaves had 20 points for the Sooners (14-5, 9-4 Big 12), who went on a 16-4 run after the Cyclones (2-16, 0-13) had erased a 21-point deficit

to lead 46-45.

■ No. 10 Villanova 68, Connecticu­t 60: At Villanova, Pa., Collin Gillespie had 20 points for the Wildcats (14-3, 9-2 Big East), who held the Huskies (10-6, 7-6) to eight second-half field goals on 30-percent shooting.

■ No. 23 Kansas 67, No. 15 Texas Tech 61: At Lawrence, Kan., David McCormack hit his first seven shots and totaled 17 points for the Jayhawks (17-7, 11-5 Big 12). The Red Raiders (14-7, 6-6) never led.

■ No. 16 Florida State 79, Pittsburgh 72: At Pittsburgh, Raiquan Gray had 16 points for the Seminoles (13-3, 9-2 ACC), who led the Panthers (9-9, 5-8) for 35 minutes but never by more than 11 points.

■ Arizona 81, No. 17 Southern California 72: At Los Angeles, the Wildcats (15-8, 9-8 Pac-12) made 14 of 16 free throws in the final 5½ minutes, when they didn’t have a field goal, to halt a seven-game win streak by the Trojans (18-4, 12-3).

■ Kentucky 70, No. 19 Tennessee 55: At Knoxville, Tenn., Isaiah Jackson had 16 points for the Wildcats (8-13, 7-7 SEC), who had a 15-0 firsthalf run and held the Volunteers (15-6, 8-6) to 32-percent shooting.

■ No. 20 Missouri 93, South Carolina 78: At Columbia, S.C., Dru Smith had 17 points for the Tigers (14-6, 7-6 SEC), who halted a three-game skid and dealt the Gamecocks (511, 3-9) their fifth straight loss.

■ No. 25 San Diego State 75, Fresno State 57: At Fresno, Calif., Jordan Schakel had 14 points on 5-for-5 shooting for the Aztecs (17-4, 11-3 Mountain West), who shot 61 percent and held the Bulldogs (9-9, 7-9) to 43 percent.

■ Brigham Young 88, Loyola Marymount 71: At Los Angeles, Matt Haarms had 21 points for the Cougars (17-5, 8-3 WCC), who led 47-25 at halftime and halted a fourgame win streak by the Lions (11-7, 6-4).

WOMEN

■ No. 1 Connecticu­t 83, Xavier 32: At Cincinnati, Christyn Williams had 22 points for the Huskies (181, 15-0 Big East), who never trailed and held the Musketeers (4-7, 1-6) to a season low in scoring.

■ No. 9 Maryland 94, Minnesota 62: At College Park, Md., Ashley Owusu had 24 points for the Terrapins (16-2, 12-1 Big Ten), who shot 55 percent and scored 23 points off 13 turnovers by the Gophers (7-11, 6-10).
