Johnnie D. Thompson was born on July 24, 1939 to Georgia Mae and Mose Thompson in Epps, Louisiana. In 1945 he started school at Coleman Elementary School in Epps, Louisiana. After 5th grade he went on to Magnolia High School where he graduated in 1957. The same day he caught the bus to Las Vegas, NV, arriving June 3. On the 5th of June he went to work at the Flamingo Hotel as a house porter. After that he worked as a porter at the Mint Hotel then on to the Sands Hotel. In August of 1960 he went to work at the Nevada Test Site, first as a custodian, then later as a security guard. In May of 1968 he went to work at the Circus Circus Hotel as a dealer. In 1971 he moved to the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in management. Johnnie stayed there until 1980 when he went to New Jersey for one year. In 1981 he came back to Las Vegas and went to work at the Las Vegas Hilton, where he worked until 1997. Then he retired and lived the “Good Life”. In 1964 he married his lifelong partner Geneva Alston their combined family included daughter Diane, sons Johnnie Jr., Johnny, and Randy. After he retired he enjoyed traveling, watching sports (basketball, football, baseball), attending family gatherings and reunions, and going out to eat with his friends and cousin Homer Miller. Johnnie was preceded in death by his wife Geneva Thompson, father and mother, Mose and Georgia Mae Thompson, brothers Odis Thompson, Freddie Thompson, sisters Mary L. Thompson and Barbara A. Thompson. Johnnie leaves to cherish his memory daughter Diane Fulks (Amos), of Atlanta, GA; sons Johnnie Thompson Jr. (Sharlene), of Atlanta, GA; Johnny Thompson (Mary) and Randy Thompson (Tiffane), of Las Vegas, NV; Ten grandchild­ren: Kandace Hunter, Johnnie Thompson III, Briana Thompson, Kyle Thompson, all of Atlanta, GA; Jamaal Thompson, Javonte Thompson, Jalen Thompson, Azsa Osborne, Alliyah Harris, and Alexis Harris of Las Vegas, NV; Two great-grandchild­ren, Nova Thompson of Atlanta, GA, and Amari Thompson of Las Vegas, NV; two brothers-in-law, Clyde Alston Jr. (Elois) and Vincent Postell Sr. (Tina); 5 sisters: Maybell JacksonJef­ferson, Bea Soares, Shelly White, Diane Long, and Tina Postell (Vincent), all of Las Vegas, NV; one brother, Ronnie Thompson (Joyce); sister-in-law, Vertis Thompson; special cousins Eddie Durr Sr., Lee Toston and Velma Vickers and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services were previously held. We’re going to miss your calls every Saturday, checking up on us and letting us know how much you love us.
