No. 21 Kentucky coasts to victory at T-Mobile Arena

Sahvir Wheeler scored 26 points on 12-for-15 shooting to lead No. 21 Kentucky past North Carolina 98-69 on Saturday in the CBS Sports Classic at T-Mobile Arena.

Kellan Grady had 18 points and Oscar Tshiebwe 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats (8-2) in their first win away from Rupp Arena this season. They held the Tar Heels (8-3) to a season-low point total.

Armando Bacot had 22 points and 10 rebounds for UNC, which had held its previous five opponents to fewer than 64 points.

Kentucky raced to its biggest lead of the first half, an 18-point edge with 4:18 left, behind a balanced scoring attack that saw nine players on the scoresheet.

Bacot scored 11 of the Tar Heels’ first 13 points before sitting down with his second foul. UNC endured shooting stretches of 0-for-7, 1-for-9 and 2-for-12.

The Wildcats held a 26-14 first-half edge in rebounds and led 40-29 at intermissi­on.

■ No. 1 Baylor 78, Oregon 70: At Eugene, Ore., Kendall Brown scored 17 points for the Bears (10-0), who trailed 39-35 at halftime. The Ducks (6-6) shot 54 percent and had a 30-28 edge in rebounds.

■ No. 2 Duke 87, Elon 56: At Durham, N.C., Trevor Keels scored 19 points for the Blue Devils (10-1), who led 44-26 at halftime. The Phoenix (3-9) had 23 turnovers.

■ No. 3 Purdue 77, Butler 48: At Indianapol­is, Jaden Ivey scored 22 points for the Boilermake­rs (10-1), who built a 36-point lead and halted a four-game win streak by the Bulldogs (7-4).

■ No. 5 Gonzaga 69, No. 25 Texas Tech 55: At Phoenix, the Red Raiders (8-2) held All-America forward Drew Timme to seven points but shot 37 percent and yielded 13 3-pointers to the Bulldogs (9-2).

■ No. 6 Alabama 65, Jacksonvil­le State 59: At Tuscaloosa, Ala., Keon Ellis had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Crimson Tide (9-2), who trailed for most of the first half. Darian Adams scored 18 points for the Gamecocks (5-6).

■ No. 7 Kansas 80, Stephen F. Austin 72: At Lawrence, Kan., Christian Braun scored 21 points for the Jayhawks (9-1), who scored 28 points off 20 turnovers by the Lumberjack­s (8-4).

■ No. 8 Arizona 84, California Baptist 60: At Tucson, Ariz., Azuolas Tubelis scored 19 points for the Wildcats (11-0), who overcame an 11-point first-half deficit. The Lancers (8-3) hit their first six shots but missed 19 of their next 21.

■ No. 10 Southern California 67, Georgia Tech 53: At Phoenix, Boogie Ellis scored 16 points for the Trojans (11-0), who went on a 23-4 run after missing 12 of 14 shots. The Yellow Jackets (5-5) shot 33 percent.

■ No. 13 Auburn 74, Saint Louis 70: At St. Louis, Walter Kessler had 19 points, nine rebounds and four blocks for the Tigers (10-1), who went ahead to stay with nine seconds left. The Billikens (8-4) led 60-47 with 9:13 left.

■ No. 14 Houston 72, Oklahoma State 61: At Fort Worth, Texas, Jamal Shead scored 18 points for the Cougars (10-2), who led 57-55 with 4:31 left before going on a 10-2 run. The Cowboys (7-4) trailed 35-30 at halftime.

■ No. 18 Tennesssee vs. Memphis, canceled: At Nashville, Tenn., COVID-19 issues with the Tigers (6-4) wiped out their game against the Volunteers (8-2).

■ No. 19 Louisiana State 66, Louisiana Tech 57: At Bossier City, La., Tari Eason had 21 points and Darius Days 18 rebounds for the Tigers (11-0), who didn’t lead until 16:10 remained. The Bulldogs (8-3) were up by 13 in the first half.

■ Providence 57, No. 20 Connecticu­t 53: At Hartford, Conn., the Friars (11-1, 1-0 Big East) closed the first half on an 11-1 run and opened the second with a 17-1 spurt. The Huskies (9-3, 0-1) were without top scorer Adama Sanogo (abdominal strain).

■ No. 22 Xavier 80, Marquette 71: At Cincinnati, Dwon Odom scored 19 points for the Musketeers (11-1, 1-0 Big East), who overcame 14 missed free throws to top the Golden Eagles (8-4, 0-1) for their seventh straight win.

■ Hofstra 89, No. 24 Arkansas 81: At North Little Rock, Ark., Arkansas transfer Abayomi Iyiola had 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Pride (7-5), who didn’t trail in the second half. The Razorbacks (92) lost their second straight.

MOUNTAIN WEST

■ Iowa 94, Utah State 75: At Sioux Falls, S.D., Keegan Murray scored 35 points on 13-for-17 shooting for the Hawkeyes (83), who halted a three-game skid. Brandon Horvath had 18 points and Justin Bean 17 for the Aggies (8-4).

TOP 10 WOMEN

■ No. 3 Stanford 74, No. 7 Tennessee 63: At Knoxville, Tenn., Haley Jones had 18 points and 19 rebounds for the Cardinal (8-2), who led 43-26 at halftime. The Volunteers (9-1) opened the third quarter with a 14-0 run, during which Stanford missed 13 shots and had eight turnovers.
