White Sox rally late to stop win streak by Yanks

CHICAGO — Luis Robert singled off Aroldis Chapman to drive home the winning run in the ninth inning as the Chicago White Sox edged the Yankees 3-2 on Saturday, stopping New York’s five-game win streak.

The Yankees (24-9), with the majors’ best record, totaled 25 runs in taking the series’ first two games. They scored the tying run in the ninth inning, but a baserunnin­g mistake cost them a chance for more.

With one out in the Chicago ninth, Tim Anderson singled and Yoan Moncada walked against Chapman (0-1). Robert followed with his big hit to right.

Moncada homered, and Dallas Keuchel pitched five shutout innings for the White Sox.

The Yankees ended the shutout on three straight singles off Joe Kelly in the eighth. Giancarlo Stanton’s one-out single cut Chicago’s lead to 2-1 and chased Kelly. Liam Hendriks (1-2) struck out Josh Donaldson and Gleyber Torres to end the inning.

New York put runners on second and third with no outs in the ninth. Kyle Higashioka lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 2-all, but Isiah Kiner-Falefa was thrown out as he tried advancing to third.

■ Athletics 4-1, Angels 3-9: At Oakland, Calif., Luis Barrera hit a walk-off three-run homer with two outs in the ninth in Game 1 for his first major league home run. Taylor Ward went 3-for-3 with a grand slam and five RBIs in Game 2.

■ Mets 5, Mariners 4: At New York, Patrick Mazeika hit a tiebreakin­g homer leading off the New York seventh in his first major league game this season, and Starling Marte tripled, doubled, singled and scored three times for the Mets.

■ Pirates 3, Reds 1: At Pittsburgh, Zach Thompson (2-3), who entered with a 7.08 ERA in six games, took a no-hitter into the sixth, ultimately blanking Cincinnati on one hit through six innings.

■ Red Sox 11, Rangers 3: At Arlington, Texas, J.D. Martinez extended his on-base streak to 31 games with a first-inning homer, backing Rich Hill (1-1), who pitched into the seventh for Boston.

■ Blue Jays 5, Rays 1: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Teoscar Hernandez and Danny Jansen homered in Toronto’s four-run eighth, and the Jays halted a five-game skid.

■ Nationals 13, Astros 6: At Washington, Nelson Cruz had a three-run double and two singles for Washington, which halted Houston’s 11-game win streak.

■ Guardians 3, Twins 2: At Minneapoli­s, Andres Gimenez hit a go-ahead RBI double in the Cleveland 10th and then scored after a collision on the bases.

■ Cardinals 4, Giants 0: At St. Louis, Yadier Molina doubled, singled and scored to back Dakota Hudson (3-2), who pitched five shutout innings.

■ Tigers 3, Orioles 0: At Detroit, Eric Haase and Willi Castro homered, and five Detroit relievers allowed four hits in 7⅔ shutout innings.

■ Braves 6, Padres 5: At Atlanta, Marcell Ozuna hit a two-run homer and Austin Riley a tiebreakin­g RBI double in Atlanta’s four-run eighth.

■ Marlins 9, Brewers 3: At Miami, Brian Anderson hit a two-run homer, and Jesus Aguilar and Jorge Soler each added a solo shot for Miami.

■ Cubs 4, Diamondbac­ks 2: At Phoenix, Yan Gomes homered in the fourth and hit a go-ahead RBI single in Chicago’s three-run ninth.

■ Phillies 8, Dodgers 3: At Los Angeles, Bryce Harper hit one of Philadelph­ia’s four home runs, doubled and drove in three runs.

■ Rockies 10, Royals 4: At Denver, Sam Hilliard hit a three-run homer and a sacrifice fly for Colorado.
