Yankees win ninth in row, shut out Jays

TORONTO — Jameson Taillon and two relievers combined on a five-hit shutout, Aaron Hicks lined a three-run double, and the New York Yankees extended their win streak to nine by beating Toronto 4-0 on Saturday.

Taillon (8-1) allowed four hits and struck out eight in 5⅔ innings to win his eighth straight decision. Michael King worked two innings, and Clay Holmes got the final four outs for the majors-leading Yankees (49-16), who pitched their 11th shutout this season.

Alek Manoah (8-2) lost for the first time in 16 career home starts, disappoint­ing a sellout crowd of 45,055. Manoah came in 2-0 with a 1.52 ERA in four starts against New York but allowed four runs on six hits and one walk in 5⅓ innings. He struck out five.

Anthony Rizzo drew a one-out walk in the New York fourth, and Gleyber Torres followed with a single. After Joey Gallo struck out, Isiah KinerFalef­a beat out an infield hit to load the bases for Hicks, who doubled to right.

The Blue Jays put runners at second and third with one out in the second inning, but Taillon retired the next eight batters.

The Yankees had an 11-game win streak from April 22 to May 3. That run ended with a loss to left-hander Yusei Kikuchi in in Toronto. Kikuchi starts Sunday for the Blue Jays.

■ Angels 4-3, Mariners 2-0: At Seattle, Mike Trout hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the Los Angeles 10th in Game 1. Trout and pinch hitter Jared Walsh homered in Game 2 as the Angels capped a sweep.

■ Brewers 7, Reds 3: At Cincinnati, Willy Adames and Hunter Renfroe homered for a second straight day, helping rookie Jason Alexander (1-0) to his first major league win.

■ Cubs 6, Braves 3: At Chicago, Willson Contreras had three hits and stole a base for Chicago in his first game against younger brother William, a fellow catcher.

■ Mets 3, Marlins 2: At New York, Francisco Lindor homered for New York to back Taijuan Walker (5-2), who allowed one run while striking out nine in 6⅔ innings.

■ Dodgers 7, Guardians 1: At Los Angeles, Trea Turner hit a two-run homer to back Julio Urias (4-6), who allowed an unearned run on two hits in six innings.

■ White Sox 7, Astros 0: At Houston, Luis Robert had three hits and four RBIs to back Johnny Cueto (1-3), who allowed two hits in seven shutout innings.

■ Twins 11, Diamondbac­ks 1: At Phoenix, five Minnesota players each had two RBIs to back Dylan Bundy (4-3), who allowed one run in eight innings.

■ Tigers 14, Rangers 7: At Detroit, Eric Haase had three hits, including one of Detroit’s three homers, as the Tigers halted a six-game skid.

■ Giants 7, Pirates 5: At Pittsburgh, Brandon Crawford hit a tying RBI single in the San Francisco sixth and an RBI double in the ninth.

■ Royals 2, Athletics 0: At Oakland, Calif., Brad Keller (2-8) shut out Oakland on one hit over seven innings. The A’s totaled two hits.

■ Cardinals 11, Red Sox 2: At Boston, Paul Goldschmid­t and Tommy Edman each had a tworun single in St. Louis’ six-run sixth.

■ Phillies 2, Nationals 1: At Washington, pinch hitter Rhys Hoskins singled home the goahead run in the Philadelph­ia 10th.

■ Rockies 5, Padres 4: At Denver, Ryan McMahon’s three hits included a go-ahead homer in the Colorado eighth.

■ Rays 7, Orioles 6: At Baltimore, Harold Ramirez hit a tiebreakin­g sacrifice fly in the Tampa Bay ninth.
