Commanders DE Young not activated for Sunday

-

Washington did not activate defensive end Chase Young (knee) for Sunday.

The team has until Wednesday to activate the 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year or revert him to the physically unable to perform list for the rest of the season. Coach Ron Rivera said Young “most certainly” will be activated before Wednesday.

Young, 23, hasn’t played since sustaining a torn right ACL on Nov. 14, 2021. Doctors repaired the injury by grafting the healthy patellar tendon from his left knee.

He opened this season on the PUP list and started practicing Nov. 2. Rivera said trainers told him Young’s knee is fine, but he needs to regain the confidence to push hard off his right leg.

Also, running back J.D. Mckissic (neck), sidelined the past two games, was placed on season-ending injured reserve.

In other Commanders news, the team agreed to return security deposits to former season ticket holders and pay a $250,000 penalty in a settlement with the state of Maryland.

■ Lions: Wide receiver D.J. Chark (ankle), sidelined the past six games, was activated from IR, and wide receiver Josh Reynolds (back) was ruled out for a third straight game.

■ Panthers: Safety Jeremy Chinn (hamstring), sidelined the past six games, was activated from IR, and safety Myles Hartsfield (ankle) was ruled out for Sunday.

■ Cowboys: Running back Ezekiel Elliott (knee), sidelined the past two games, will play Sunday, the Dallas Morning News reported.

■ Chargers: Tight end Gerald Everett (groin), removed from the injury report Friday, was downgraded to questionable for Sunday.

■ Browns: Defensive end Chase Winovich (hamstring), sidelined the past seven games, was activated from IR.
