Devils blitz Senators, net 12th consecutiv­e victory

OTTAWA, Ontario — Yegor Sharangovi­ch had a goal and an assist to back Akira Schmid, who had 25 saves, as New Jersey notched its 12th straight victory Saturday by beating Ottawa 5-1.

Former Golden Knight Erik Haula opened the scoring with a first-period power-play goal for the Devils (15-3-0), who are 7-0-0 against Canadian foes this season.

Nathan Bastian and Jesper Boqvist scored to put New Jersey up 3-0 in the second period and prompt Senators goalie Anton Forsberg to be pulled after stopping only 15 of 18 shots.

Cam Talbot finished in net and allowed one goal on 17 shots for Ottawa (6-10-1), which is 2-8-1 in its past 11 games.

Derick Brassard scored with 2:31 left in the second for the Senators, but Sharangovi­ch restored the Devils’ threegoal lead with a short-handed tally with 35 seconds left in the second.

Ottawa pulled Talbot for an extra attacker with 4:51 left in the third, and Michael Mcleod scored an empty-net goal with 2:29 to go.

■ Bruins 6, Blackhawks 1: At Boston, David Pastrnak had two goals and defenseman Charlie Mcavoy four assists to back Jeremy Swayman, who had 17 saves, as Boston (16-2-0) tied the NHL record for most consecutiv­e home wins to open a season with 11. The Bruins matched the mark set by Chicago in 1963-64 and tied by Florida last season.

■ Canadiens 5, Flyers 4, SO: At Montreal, former Golden Knights prospect Nick Suzuki scored the lone shootout goal and had two assists. Cole Caufield scored his second goal of the night with 1.9 seconds left in the third period to force overtime for Montreal.

■ Blues 6, Ducks 2: At St. Louis, Pavel Buchnevich had two goals and three assists as St. Louis won its sixth straight following an eight-game slide, setting an NHL record for the longest win streak immediatel­y after a skid of at least eight straight games.

■ Maple Leafs 5, Sabres 2: At Toronto, William Nylander scored twice for Toronto to back Matt Murray, who stopped 32 shots to hand Buffalo its eighth straight loss. Former Golden Knight Alex Tuch scored his ninth goal of the season for the Sabres.

■ Avalanche 4, Capitals 0: At Washington, Alexandar Georgiev stopped 32 shots in his ninth shutout and first with Colorado, and Nathan Mackinnon had a goal and two assists in the Avalanche’s second straight win and sixth in seven games.

■ Wild 2, Hurricanes 1, OT: At St. Paul, Minn., Sam Steel scored the tying goal with 2:37 left in the third period and assisted on defenseman Alex Goligoski’s first goal of the season 1:12 into overtime as Minnesota halted a three-game skid.

■ Red Wings 6, Blue Jackets 1: At Columbus, Ohio, defenseman Filip Hronek scored twice in the second period, and Dylan Larkin had a goal and two assists to back Ville Husso, who stopped 26 shots in Detroit’s second straight road win.

■ Lightning 3, Predators 2, OT: At Nashville, Tenn., Steven Stamkos scored a power-play goal 2:36 into overtime to back Andrei Vasilevski­y, who had 30 saves in Tampa Bay’s fourth straight win.

■ Flames 5, Panthers 4, SO: At Sunrise, Fla., Rasmus Andersson scored the decisive goal in the fifth shootout round. Adam Ruzicka had two goals and an assist for Calgary.

■ Stars 5, Islanders 2: At Dallas, Jamie Benn scored the tiebreakin­g goal at 8:17 of the third period and had two assists to back Jake Oettinger, who stopped 27 shots.

■ Penguins 3, Jets 0: At Winnipeg, Manitoba, Tristan Jarry stopped 32 shots in his 12th shutout and first this season, and Bryan Rust had a goal and an assist.
