Garland, Hoglander spark league-best Canucks’ win

Conor Garland had two goals and an assist, and Nils Hoglander also scored twice for host Vancouver in the Nhl-leading Canucks’ 6-4 win over Toronto on Saturday.

After Mitch Marner scored a shorthande­d breakaway goal for the Maple Leafs 3:13 into the third period to tie it at 4, defenseman Quinn Hughes assisted on power-play goals by J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson. Hughes totaled three assists.

Thatcher Demko had 42 saves for Vancouver (31-11-4), which was outshot 46-21 but moved to 7-0-1 in its past eight games and took a one-point lead over Eastleadin­g Boston.

William Nylander scored twice to reach 200 NHL goals, all with Toronto (22-14-8), which lost for the fifth time in six games.

Down 3-0 after the first period, the Maple Leafs scored three goals — two by Nylander — in a 3:26 span of the second. Garland added his second of the night with a minute left in the period.

■ Blues 3, Capitals 0: At St. Louis, Robert Thomas had the primary assist on a short-handed goal by Colton Parayko and a power-play goal by Jake Neighbours, and Jordan Binnington stopped 18 shots in his 14th shutout and second this season. St. Louis had a 29-18 edge in shots and halted a three-game skid.

■ Bruins 9, Canadiens 4: At Boston, Brad Marchand set a Boston record by scoring a 20th goal for an 11th straight season, and teammate Danton Heinen notched his first hat trick in his 450th NHL game. The Bruins won their fourth straight and moved to 5-0-3 in their past eight games.

■ Jets 2, Senators 1, OT: At Ottawa, Ontario, Nikolaj Ehlers scored with 45.8 seconds left in overtime to back Connor Hellebuyck, who had 34 saves in Winnipeg’s 10th win in 11 games. The Jets are 14-12 in their past 17. Ottawa played its first overtime game this season.

■ Lightning 3, Sabres 1: At Buffalo, N.Y., Nicholas Paul and Tyler Motte scored 52 seconds apart in the first period to back exbuffalo goalie Jonas Johansson, who had 26 saves in Tampa Bay’s fifth straight win. The Sabres had a 27-16 edge in shots.

■ Stars 6, Devils 2: At Newark,

N.J., Roope Hintz scored twice in Dallas’ three-goal second period to back Scott Wedgewood, who had 29 saves while improving to 3-0 against ex-team, as the Stars won for the third time in four games.

■ Coyotes 3, Predators 2: At Tempe, Ariz., Clayton Keller scored twice for Arizona to back Connor Ingram, who stopped 31 shots in Arizona’s second win in five games. Nashville had won three of its previous four.

■ Avalanche 7, Flyers 4: At Philadelph­ia, Nathan Mackinnon had two goals and three assists, and Logan O’connor notched a hat trick for Colorado, which halted Philadelph­ia’s five-game win streak.
