Foster’s touchdown run helps Dolphins to win over Falcons

-

ORLANDO, Fla. — Arian Foster had a 2-yard touchdown run to help the Miami Dolphins to a 17-6 win over the Atlanta Falcons in a preseason game Thursday night.

Foster, who joined the Dolphins during the offseason and is coming off an Achilles injury, had his most extensive playing time with his new team.

The four-time Pro Bowl running back played in just one series in the first half but made the most of the limited opportunities.

He sparked the Dolphins (2-1) to their lone touchdown drive of the half with five carries for 10 yards, capped by his 2-yard scoring run early in the second quarter.

Miami is taking a cautious approach with the 30-year-old Foster, who hasn’t played a full season since 2012 with Houston.

Ryan Tannehill was 20 of 29 passing for 155 yards while leading the Dolphins to a score in one of two red zone opportunities.

Matt Ryan was 12 of 22 passing for 129 yards and an interception for Atlanta (2-1).

In his lone trip to the red zone in two full quarters, Ryan threw an interception in the middle of the end zone to Miami safety Reshad Jones.

Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones left in the second quarter with an ankle injury that wasn’t believed to be NFL PRESEASON serious.

Seahawks 27, Cowboys 17 — At Seattle, three plays were all it took for Dallas (1-2) to get yet another injury scare surrounding Tony Romo.

The quarterback lasted 90 seconds into the Cowboys’ loss to Seattle (2-1) before leaving with what appeared at first to be a potentially significant injury but ended up being minor.

Romo was tackled from behind by Seattle’s Cliff Avril on the third play from scrimmage as Romo scrambled from the pocket.

He immediately grabbed at his back, crumpled on the field while trainers sprinted from the Dallas sideline.

Turned out it was just a scare. Romo walked off the field without assistance, threw passes on the sideline and lobbied for a return to the game.

Making his Cowboys debut, rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott ran for 48 yards on seven carries, including a 13-yard burst on which he knocked safety Kam Chancellor backward.

Russell Wilson and Seattle’s No. 1 offense played into the second half, scoring on four of their final five possessions, including TD tosses by Wilson to Paul Richardson and Tyler Lockett.

Wilson finished 16 of 21 for 192 yards, while Christine Michael ran for 58 yards on seven carries.
