with six-cylinder Z5 models. The least expensive version is expected to cost significantly more than the Z4, which in the United States begins in the low$50,000 range. The Z5 is expected to launch in early 2018. G,A NEW MERCEDES-BENZ

The German automaker’s militaryspec off-road cube has been around in one form or another for decades, but the Sleuth confirms that a completely new G-Class will make its debut in 2018 as a 2019 model. This time the super (as in powerful and pricey) off-roader will gain about 4 inches in width, apparently to accommodate new suspension pieces.

Surprisingly, though, body length has been slightly reduced. That, along with greater use of aluminum body panels and various components, and smaller and lighter inline six-cylinder engine choices, is expected to take a 450-pound bite from the current model’s 5,600-pound base curb weight. MARKET INDICATORS

Trending up: A more affordable Acura NSX, perhaps: British enthusiast mag Autocar reports Honda is seriously considering both a gasoline-only version of its latest $160,000-plus hybrid super sports car, as well as an all-electric version. Apparently Honda/Acura views the platform as ideal for building different sporty models with different (lower) price points.

Trending up: Car collector and former “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno recently survived the rollover of a 1968 Plymouth Barracuda. Leno was in the co-pilot’s seat as owner Bob Riggle demonstrated how his 2,500-horsepower dragster could be driven on its rear wheels only.

Unfortunately, Riggle turned too sharply at the end of his run, causing his car to flip several times. Leno and Riggle were unhurt, but the Barracuda suffered extensive damage.
