MINNESOTA VIKINGS 22, CAROLINA PANTHERS 10

-

At Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, North Carolina ■ RECAP: Sam Bradford threw a touchdown pass to Kyle Rudolph, Marcus Sherels returned a punt for a score and the resilient Vikings (3-0) snapped Carolina’s 14-game home winning streak.

Minnesota put the clamps on Cam Newton, intercepting the league Most Valuable Player three times and recording eight sacks, one resulting in a safety by Danielle Hunter. Defensive end Everson Griffen had three sacks, and the eight were the second-most ever against Newton.

The Vikings remained unbeaten a week after losing running back Adrian Peterson and offensive tackle Matt Kalil to injuries, having already lost quarterback Teddy Bridgewater during the preseason.

The Panthers (1-2) were averaging 42 points in their last three home games, but did little after bolting to a 10-0 lead. The Vikings held Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess without a catch as Carolina suffered its first home defeat since Nov. 16, 2014.

Bradford improved to 2-0 as the Vikings starter, completing 18 of 28 for 171 yards. Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon combined for 70 yards on 22 carries. Rudolph made seven catches for 70 yards, including a 15-yard TD to put the Vikings ahead for good early in the third quarter.

■ QUOTABLE: “We have a great team — the best team I have been a part of. We come from every area of the field and we get sacks.” — Griffen

■ NEXT: Giants at Vikings (-3½), 5:30 p.m. Monday; Panthers (-3) at Falcons, 10 a.m. Sunday
