Dustin Johnson soars to No. 1 with five-stroke victory in Genesis Open

Dustin Johnson went to No. 1 in the world with a world-class performanc­e at Riviera in Los Angeles.

He finished the third round of the Genesis Open in the morning with a 7-under-par 64 to build a five-shot lead, stretched it to nine shots at one point in the final round and coasted home to a 71 and a five-shot victory.

Johnson, 32, became the 20th player to reach No. 1 since the world ranking began in 1986, ending Jason Day’s 47week stay on top.

LPGA: At Adelaide, Australia, Ha Na Jang had an eagle and three birdies over her last six holes to finish at 10 under in a three-shot victory in the Women’s Australian Open.

CHAMPIONS: At Naples, Fla., Fred Couples shot 5-under 67 to finish at 16 under in the Chubb Classic, three strokes ahead of second-round leader Miguel Angel Jimenez.
