Five members of swimming, diving team earn All-Conference honors
The UNLV women’s swimming and diving team saw five individuals earn a spot on the Mountain West All-Conference team, the league announced on Monday.
UNLV had two swimmers named to the all-conference team for two events. Freshman Sofia Carnevale was recognized for her performance in the 100 and 200yard breast, placing second in each event at the conference championships.
Junior Kyndal Phillips was also recognized for her performance in the 100 fly and 200 back, placing fifth and third, respectively. Senior Kristina Hendrick (100-yard breaststroke), freshman Ida Schutt (400-yard IM) and sophomore Alyssa Arnett (platform diving) were also honored.
■ SOFTBALL: UNLV senior Morgan Ettinger was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league office.
Ettinger earned four wins in two starts and two relief appearances, helping the Rebels go unbeaten at the DeMarini Desert Classic this past weekend in Las Vegas.
The right-hander from Chino Hills, Calif., pitched 19 innings over the four games, including two complete games in each of her starts, giving up just three earned runs with 17 strikeouts.
■ WOMEN’S TENNIS: UNLV (6-1) was No. 33 in the nation in this week’s Oracle/ITA Division I Collegiate Rankings, which go 50 teams deep.
It is the highest ranking for the Rebels since standing No. 29 on Jan. 29, 2011.
