Trier helps No. 4 Arizona top USC, set up UCLA showdown

TUCSON, Ariz. — Findlay Prep product Allonzo Trier scored a season-high 25 points, including four 3-pointers, as No. 4 Arizona beat Southern California 90-77 on Thursday to stay alone atop the Pac-12 and set up a Saturday showdown against No. 5 UCLA.

Rawle Alkins added 12 points and Lauri Markkanen 11 for the Wildcats (26-3, 15-1), who won their 21st straight home game.

Bennie Boatwright scored 23 points and Chimezie Metu 15 for the Trojans (22-7, 8-7), who lost their third in a row — to the top three teams in the conference.

The Wildcats closed the first half with a 12-2 run and were up by as many as 16 points in the second half.

No. 1 Gonzaga 96, San Diego 38 — At San Diego, Johnathan Williams had 14 points and 19 rebounds for the Bulldogs (29-0, 17-0), who blitzed the Toreros (12-17, 5-12) to clinch the West Coast Conference regular-season title.

No. 5 UCLA 87, Arizona State 75 — COLLEGE BASKETBALL At Tempe, Ariz., T.J. Leaf scored 25 points for the Bruins (25-3, 12-3 Pac-12), who held a 49-30 rebounding edge. Torian Graham scored 28 points for the Sun Devils (13-16, 6-10).

No. 15 Cincinnati 87, Memphis 74 — At Cincinnati, Jacob Evans III scored 15 points for the Bearcats (25-3, 14-1 American Athletic Conference), who downed the Tigers (18-10, 8-7) for their 25th straight home win.

Ohio State 83, No. 16 Wisconsin 73 — At Columbus, Ohio, Jae’Sean Tate had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Buckeyes (16-13, 6-10 Big Ten), who dealt the Badgers (22-6, 11-4) their third loss in four games. Bronson Koenig scored 27 points for Wisconsin, which didn’t lead after the first minute.

No. 20 Saint Mary’s 78, Pepperdine 49 — At Malibu, Calif., Jock Landale had 23 points and 14 rebounds for the Gaels (25-3, 15-2 WCC), who waited out a 15-minute power outage before capping a rout of the Waves (9-20, 5-12).
