Panarin, Blackhawks top Isles in shootout, win sixth straight

CHICAGO — Artemi Panarin scored with 1:14 left in regulation and had the clinching shootout goal, helping the Chicago Blackhawks beat the New York Islanders 2-1 on Friday for their sixth consecutiv­e victory. NHL

Jonathan Toews also scored in the tiebreaker as Chicago pulled within one point of idle Minnesota for the top spot in the Western Conference. Corey Crawford made 31 saves in his first start since Feb. 23.

After Toews beat Thomas Greiss with a wrist shot, Crawford turned away Joshua Ho-Sang. Patrick Kane was stopped by Greiss, and Nikolay Kulemin shot it off the right post before Panarin finished the Chicago victory.

Greiss made 30 stops for New York, and Brock Nelson scored his 14th goal in the second.

The Islanders had won four of five, including a 5-4 victory at Dallas on Thursday.

The Blackhawks played without center Artem Anisimov due to a lower-body injury, and rookie forward Nick Schmaltz was scratched with an illness. Schmaltz has two goals and seven assists during a five-game point streak.

Ducks 5, Maple Leafs 2 — At Anaheim, Calif., Rickard Rakell scored twice to back Jonathan Bernier, who had 37 saves, as Anaheim returned from its bye week with its third straight home win and dealt Toronto its fifth straight loss.

Flames 3, Red Wings 2, OT — At Calgary, Alberta, Mikael Backlund scored with 1:04 left in overtime after Tomas Tatar tied it for Detroit with 1.8 seconds left in regulation as Calgary won its sixth straight.

Penguins 5, Lightning 2 — At Pittsburgh, Evgeni Malkin scored twice off assists from Phil Kessel and added an assist in his 700th game, and Mark Streit scored in his first game for Pittsburgh.

Jets 3, Blues 0 — At Winnipeg, Manitoba, Connor Hellebuyck had 29 saves in his fourth shutout of the season, Blake Wheeler scored twice, and St. Louis lost its fifth straight.

Coyotes 4, Hurricanes 2 — At Raleigh, N.C., Jordan Martinook scored the decisive goal midway through the third period, and Shane Doan had an empty-net goal and two assists.
