ESPN: Despite Buccaneers’ offer, QB Glennon to test free agency

-

Despite being offered a contract that would make him the highest-paid backup quarterback in the NFL, Mike Glennon still wants to test the free agency waters, according to ESPN.

Should the 27-year-old Glennon take the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offer, he would make more money than the $7 million per year Chase Daniel signed for last offseason, per the report.

However, Glennon wants to test free agency and be a starting quarterback. Tampa Bay drafted the former North Carolina State product in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft and has started only 18 times in four seasons.

The Bucs eventually drafted Glennon’s replacement in 2015, going with former Heisman Trophy winner, and eventual Rookie of the Year, Jameis Winston at No. 2 overall.

REDSKINS: The Washington Redskins signed head coach Jay Gruden to a contract extension on Monday, becoming the first coach to have his contract extended by owner Dan Snyder.

Gruden coached Washington to an NFC East title in 2015, only to miss the playoffs this past season with an 8-8 record.

While the Redskins are ensuring continuity at the head coaching position, they go into an uncertain offseason regarding key positions on offense, the side of the ball Gruden excels at.

Washington could possibly lose starting receivers DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon, while Redskins management could field trade offers for quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Gruden was about to enter the fourth year of a five-year deal, and it could be his most difficult season yet.
