Baseball team forces extras but falls to Grand Canyon at home

Jared McDonald drove in two runs with a single in the top of the 11th inning, and Grand Canyon beat UNLV 10-8 at Wilson Stadium on Tuesday night in extra innings.

The Rebels (8-9, 4-2 Mountain West) had runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning but failed to tie the game. UNLV trailed by one entering the bottom of the ninth inning but an RBI single by Ernie De La Trinidad tied the game.

De La Trinidad finished the game 3-for-4 with a home run and two walks.

■ MEN’S GOLF: Freshman Justin Kim was selected as the Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week for tournament­s played March 6-11. This is the first career MW weekly accolade for Kim and the second of the year for the 16th-ranked Rebels.

Kim, from Fullerton, Calif., captured the first individual title of his collegiate career by one stroke, winning the Jackrabbit Invitation­al at Las Vegas’ Siena Golf Club, March 10-11. He finished the twoday, 54-hole event at 13-under-par 203 (67-68-68).

Love had surgery on his left knee Feb. 14. The defending NBA champions are 7-6 since he was injured and have been plagued by defensive and rebounding issues without the four-time All-Star.

Love is having his best season since joining the Cavaliers in 2014, averaging 20 points and 11.1 rebounds. Cleveland was outrebound­ed 52-38 in Sunday’s loss to Houston.
