Ducks stay hot, sink Rangers, sit alone atop Pacific Division

-

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Andrew Cogliano scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period, Jonathan Bernier made 25 saves, and the Anaheim Ducks won their fourth straight game by defeating Henrik Lundqvist and the New York Rangers 6-3 on Sunday.

Patrick Eaves scored two goals, and Ryan Getzlaf had four assists as Anaheim moved two points ahead of idle San Jose and Edmonton for first place in the Pacific Division with seven games remaining.

Josh Manson had a short-handed goal, and Ryan Kesler scored on the power play for the Ducks, who improved to 8-1-1 in their past 10 games.

Lundqvist made 28 saves in his first start since suffering a hip injury on March 7, and Brady Skjei, Derek Stepan and Rick Nash each scored for the Rangers.

New York could have clinched a playoff spot with a win.

Cogliano alertly raced in to score on a rebound after a faceoff between Kesler and Stepan sent the puck off Lundqvist, and Eaves doubled the Ducks’ lead 2:04 later.

Nick Ritchie added an empty-net goal with 1:38 left.

After scoring an empty-netter late in the Rangers’ win at Los Angeles on Saturday, it didn’t take Nash long to extend his streak of games with a NHL goal to four.

Nash kept the puck the whole way on a break alongside Jimmy Vesey and fired a shot that Bernier slowed but didn’t fully stop, with the puck trickling through his legs and in for a 1-0 Rangers lead.

Flyers 6, Penguins 2 — At Pittsburgh, Jakub Voracek and Dale Weise scored to spark Philadelphia’s four-goal third period to back Steve Mason, who had 25 saves, as the Flyers kept Pittsburgh from moving one point behind Washington for first place in the Metropolitan Division.

Red Wings 3, Wild 2, OT — At Detroit, Andreas Athanasiou scored 1:52 into overtime to back Jimmy Howard, who had 24 saves, as Detroit dealt Minnesota its eighth loss in nine games. The Wild clinched a postseason berth with Los Angeles’ loss Saturday.

Stars 2, Devils 1, OT — At Newark, N.J., Tyler Seguin scored on a power play 20 seconds into overtime, after Ales Hemsky’s power-play goal with 6:36 left in regulation tied it for Dallas, which avoided being ousted from postseason contention.

Jets 2, Canucks 1 — At Winnipeg, Manitoba, Adam Lowry scored the go-ahead goal on a power play with 8:13 left to back Michael Hutchinson, who had 28 saves, as Winnipeg avoided being eliminated from the playoff picture.
