Republican­s really are the party of ‘no’

For the past eight years, Democrats have described the Republican­s as the party of “no.” No ideas, no solutions, no plans, no suggestion­s — just “no” votes.

On Friday, we found out the Democrats were right. The Republican­s, with seven years to draft a plan, were unable to come with something that they themselves could approve. All they could do was vote “no.” Disgracefu­l.

Health care would be freed from Democrat identity politics and “free” coverage for all should bring support from Democrats voters. New funding for Medicare would solve a budget problem and attract Republican­s. Insurance companies would naturally fight, but I don’t think they would prevail.

I am hoping that the president will try. It would become his legacy if it succeeded. example of how the federal political system entraps states into ever-increasing social welfare programs. Have a problem? Big government will look after you. Remember: The only “entitlemen­t” programs are Social Security and Medicare. All others are a form of welfare as there is no human contributi­on.

There will always be a need to support the needy. But the danger is the political motive and ever-increasing growth of such programs resulting in human apathy.
