Crosby, Penguins edge Rangers to snap four-game losing streak

NEW YORK — Sidney Crosby came through to help the Pittsburgh Penguins pull out another close win.

The Penguins’ captain scored a goal and an assist in regulation and then got the clinching tally in the shootout to help Pittsburgh snap a four-game skid with a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Friday.

Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust also scored for the Penguins, and Matt Murray stopped 30 shots for his 29th victory of the season.

With the win, Pittsburgh eclipsed its point total of last season, when it won the Stanley Cup.

Chris Kreider tied the score for the Rangers with 11.6 seconds left in the third period to force overtime.

Nick Holden had a goal and an assist, Rick Nash also scored, and J.T. Miller added two assists for New York.

Henrik Lundqvist finished with 32 saves for the Rangers, who fell to 0-5-3 at home since beating Washington on Feb. 19.

The Penguins improved to 5-1-2 in their past eight road games and secured a winning record away from home for the 11th consecutiv­e season. NHL

Avalanche 2, Blues 1, SO — At Denver, Calvin Pickard had 27 saves through overtime and two in the shootout for Colorado, which halted a seven-game slide. St. Louis clinched a playoff spot by earning a point.

Kings 2,Canucks 0 — At Vancouver, British Columbia, Jonathan Quick had 35 saves in his second shutout of the season, and Jarome Iginla scored his 625th goal to tie Joe Sakic for 15th on the league’s all-time list.

Flames 5, Sharks 2 — At Calgary, Alberta, Matt Stajan scored his first goal in 24 games as the Flames clinched their second playoff berth in eight seasons.

Blackhawks 3, Blue Jackets 1 — At Chicago, Artemi Panarin had two goals and Patrick Kane three assists to back Corey Crawford, who had 32 saves.

Islanders 2, Devils 1 — At New York, Anders Lee and Anthony Beauvillie­r scored to back Jaroslav Halak, who had 26 saves.
