Couple die at apartment; murder-suicide suspected
Two people are dead after a possible murder-suicide Sunday in the central valley.
Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Grant Rogers said a man called police about 2:30 p.m. Sunday to report he had accidentally shot a woman in the stomach at an apartment complex on the 4100 block of West Twain Avenue, near Arville Street.
As officers walked up the stairs to the apartment, they heard a gunshot. A 9-year-old child answered the door, and told them the man had shot himself, Metro Lt. Dan Mcgrath said.
Mcgrath said the man and woman, both in their 30s, were the child’s parents. They both died at the scene.
The man called his mother before shooting the woman, but police did not describe the conversation. Mcgrath said the woman had a history of domestic violence, for which she had been arrested at least once. Mcgrath said it appeared the man did not live in the apartment.
“We can’t be in every house,” Mcgrath said, “but there’s cases where more could have been done by family or neighbors and by the police.”
The child was taken into custody by Child Protective Services.
Mcgrath said detectives will review the man’s 911 call and statements from the officers with evidence from the scene.
