Zach Collins scouting report

-

Former Bishop Gorman player Zach Collins, a key reserve on Gonzaga’s national runner-up team, could be a lottery pick. Here’s what some NBA writers had to say about the 7-footer:

No player shined more during conference play and the NCAA

Tournament than Collins, who parlayed an efficient post game (1.12 points per post up play, which led all of Division I) and a rapidly burgeoning defensive skill set (his block rate and defensive rebound percentage ranked within Kenpon’s top 100), into the lottery.

Matthew Giles, The Washington Post

The 7-footer was Gonzaga’s first Mcdonald’s All-american and was a key reserve during the Bulldogs’ run to the NCAA championship game. Strengths:

The freshman averaged 10 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting a conference-best 65 percent, showing nice touch around the paint, mobility and athleticism. He’s a possible lottery pick. Concerns: Collins has a small sample size for teams to evaluate. He’s also had issues with foul trouble. Aaron Beard, The Associated Press

He wasn’t considered a lottery pick early in the college season, but he came on in January and now could be taken in the top 10. One scout called Collins “a really, really talented big man” and “the highest riser.” Collins showed he can score in the post and step out and shoot. He also blocked 1.8 shots in just 17.2 minutes per game.
