Statistic of the day: 2009 — The last time a U.S. man reached the semifinals at any Grand Slam tournament (Andy Roddick lost in that year’s Wimbledon final). Sam Querrey had never been to the semifinals in 41 previous appearances at majors.

Quote of the day: “Yeah, I guess the break is something that I will have to consider right now.” — Novak Djokovic, who said his injured elbow has been bothering him for more than a year.

Thursday lookahead: After Andy Murray’s loss in the men’s quarterfinals, Britain still has one of its own to cheer for — Johanna Konta. She is trying to become the host country’s first female champion at the All England Club in 40 years. First, though, Konta will need to get past Venus Williams, who already owns five titles at the grasscourt Grand Slam tournament. This will be the 37-year-old American’s 10th Wimbledon semifinal and 22nd at all majors. Konta’s only previous match atthisstageofagrandslam tournament was a semifinal loss at the 2016 Australian Open.

“We’re pretty happy with the length of the game. We were more focused here on the pace and flow of the game. What we heard from our fans, what we heard from many of our teams, was thattheendof the games in particular were too choppy. And I think since I was a kid, that was an issue people were talking about, the last two minutes of a game.”
