-

Bonanza product Kris Bryant was out of the Chicago Cubs’ lineup Friday with a finger injury and could miss this weekend’s series against St. Louis.

The reigning NL MVP sprained his left little finger on a headfirst slide in the first inning of Chicago’s victory at Atlanta on Wednesday. X-rays were negative, but Bryant is experiencing soreness, and there is concern about gripping a bat.

“We’re going to do this a day-by-day thing,” manager Joe Maddon said. “I really don’t know. If I had to guess, probably not tomorrow, too, and possibly on Sunday. But I really don’t know.”

Bryant, 25, is hitting .275 with 19 homers and 40 RBIS in 88 games. Javier Baez started at third base in Bryant’s place Friday in the Cubs’ 11-4 loss to the Cardinals.

Kelly, 23, one of St. Louis’ top prospects, hit .283 with 10 home runs and 41 RBIS in 68 games with Memphis. He started Friday at Chicago when Yadier Molina (sore right ankle) was a late scratch and hit a two-run double in the Cardinals’ win.

■ Phillies: Utility player Howie Kendrick (left hamstring strain) was activated from the disabled list, and first baseman/ outfielder Brock Stassi was sent to Triple-a Lehigh Valley.
