Sources: Irving asks to be traded by Cavaliers

Four-time All-star point guard Kyrie Irving asked the Cleveland Cavaliers to trade him, two people familiar with the situation said.

The top pick in the 2011 draft reportedly made the request to owner Dan Gilbert last week.

Irving, 25, is under contract for two more seasons with Cleveland, with a player option in 2020. But the Cavs could be inclined to move Irving now and begin another rebuild around Lebron James, who can opt out of his contract next summer.

Irving averaged a career-high 25.2 points and 5.8 assists in 72 games last season.

■ Grizzlies: Findlay Prep product Dillon Brooks signed with Memphis. Terms were not disclosed. The Pac-12 player of the year last season for Oregon, Brooks, 21, was selected with the 45th pick of this year’s draft by Houston and dealt to the Grizzlies for a future second-round pick.

■ Spurs: Center Pau Gasol, 37, agreed to a three-year contract with San Antonio, ESPN reported. Terms were not disclosed. a misdemeano­r charge stemming from the January incident.

Police said Jones kicked and used head-butting as he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a hotel employee. As he was arrested, police video showed him protesting and yelling obscene insults, including telling an officer: “I hope you die tomorrow.”

■ Chiefs: Kansas City signed first-round draft pick Patrick Mahomes to a four-year contract worth $16.4 million guaranteed with a $10 million signing bonus, making the Texas Tech product the last quarterbac­k in the 2017 draft class to sign.

■ Jets: Safety Jamal Adams, the sixth pick in this year’s draft out of Louisiana State, signed a four-year deal with New York worth $22.3 million guaranteed with a $14.3 signing bonus.

■ Panthers: Two-time Pro Bowl guard Trai Turner, 24, signed a four-year extension with Carolina worth $45 million, with $20.5 guaranteed.
