Nats’ Strasburg suffers sore arm

Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg exited his start Sunday at Arizona in the second inning because of slight “achiness” in his right forearm.

Strasburg, 29, said he left as a precaution and that he wants to “nip (the injury) in the bud” so he is available to the Nationals in the season’s late stages.

Strasburg, 10-3 with a 3.31 ERA entering the game, walked the Nos. 8 and No. 9 batters before departing with a 5-0 lead. He threw 51 pitches (29 strikes) in Washington’s 6-2 win.

In other Nationals news, Chris Heisey (left groin strain) was placed on the 10-day disabled list, Andrew Stevenson’s contract was selected from Triple-a Syracuse, fellow outfielder Ryan Raburn was placed on bereavemen­t leave, and catcher Pedro Severino was recalled from Triple-a Syracuse.

■ Red Sox: Third baseman Rafael Devers will be promoted

Monday from Triple-a Pawtucket, president Dave Dombrowski said. Devers, 20, ranked as the majors’ sixth-best prospect by Baseball America, batted .300 with 18 home runs in 77 Double-a games before hitting .355 with two homers in eight games with Pawtucket.

■ Astros: Rookie third baseman Colin Moran

(facial fracture) was placed on the 10-day disabled list, and infielder Tyler White was recalled from Triple-a Fresno. Moran,

24, remained hospitaliz­ed to receive treatment after fouling a ball off his left cheek Saturday.

■ Yankees: New York acquired first baseman

Ryan Mcbroom from Toronto for utility player Rob Refsnyder and assigned Mcbroom, 25, to Double-a Trenton. Also, first baseman Ji-man Choi cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-a Scranton/wilkes-barre.

■ Rangers: Catcher Robinson Chirinos exited Texas’ win at Tampa Bay after suffering a sprained left ankle in a home-plate collision. X-rays were negative. Also, infielder

Pete Kozma cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-a Round Rock.

■ Cardinals: First baseman Matt Carpenter (tight right quadriceps) exited St. Louis’ game against the Chicago Cubs in the second inning and is day to day, the team said.

■ Diamondbac­ks: Outfielder J.D. Martinez (left hand contusion) missed a fourth straight game but is “trending in the right direction,” manager Torey Lovullo said.

■ Brewers: Wily Peralta (right calf strain) was activated from the disabled list, and fellow right-handed reliever Rob Scahill was designated for assignment.

■ Mariners: Second baseman Danny Espinosa, 30, released last week by the Los Angeles Angels, signed a minor league contract with Seattle.

■ Padres: Manuel

Margot was activated from paternity leave, and fellow outfielder Franchy Cordero was optioned to Triple-a El Paso.

■ White Sox: Left fielder Melky Cabrera is day to day after exiting Chicago’s loss at Kansas City with a left foot contusion.

■ Blue Jays: Toronto acquired right-hander

Nick Tepesch, 28, from Minnesota for cash considerat­ions.
