Another yoga benefit may be coping with trauma
A report from Georgetown Law’s Center on Poverty and Inequality finds that specialized yoga and mindfulness programs can help at-risk girls in the juvenile justice system cope with pervasive childhood trauma.
Yoga can restore neurological pathways in a region of the brain that decreases in size among female trauma survivors, the study found, and “traumainformed yoga” can help girls overcome a sense of disconnection to their bodies that’s common among survivors of sexual violence.
