Suspect in Strip shooting identified, remains in jail
Incident started in front of Planet Hollywood
Las Vegas police identified a suspect in a shooting on the Strip early Monday, documents show.
The suspect, 21-year-old Eliazar Torres-cruz, was jailed Monday on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, along with domestic battery and gun charges. He remained in Clark County Detention Center on Tuesday morning, jail records show. His bail was set at $20,000.
The Metropolitan Police Department said the shooting stemmed fromanargumentinfrontofastrip casino.
A group of men got in the argument about 4:30 a.m. at the bottom of the escalators leading to Planet Hollywood Resort, 3667 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Metro Lt. David Gordon said.
Two men and two women, all tourists from California, were walking northbound near Planet Hollywood Resort when two other men approached and started the argument, an arrest report shows.
One of the women told police she had dated Torres-cruz and that they had started reconciling about July 4, around the same time she started dating one of the other men involved in the argument.
Torres-cruz’s companion began to calm down, but the former was still agitated. He shouted, “I’m going to get my strap” and ran away, the report said.
The two men and women began walking toward Paris Las Vegas and then west in the crosswalk toward Bellagio when Torres-cruz came up from behind and fired one shot, the report said.
Nobody was injured, Gordon said. Torres-cruz was “very jealous” but had never done anything to this extent, the woman told police. He had found her location through social media but did not know she was going on a date, the report said.
The shooter ran but was taken into custody in front of the Bellagio fountains. Police found a handgun.
Officers temporarily closed sections of Las Vegas Boulevard between Harmon Avenue and Flamingo Road while they investigated.
