Overturned semi creates massive clog of I-15 lanes

-

Southbound Interstate 15 reopened after a Sunday morning crash involving a semitrailer closed the freeway for hours near Apex.

The freeway’s southbound lanes were closed until about 4:30 p.m. near U.S. Highway 93 near Apex, the Nevada Department of Transportation posted on Twitter.

The crash occurred about 5 a.m. Sunday, and traffic was backed up for miles because it could be diverted only to North Las Vegas Boulevard, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

Traffic was backed up to at least the turnoff to Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said.

The driver of the semitrailer was taken to University Medical Center with survivable injuries, Stuenkel said.

At a community forum Sunday at the Mob Museum, about 60 people got a lesson in how Las Vegas police investigate homicides.

Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Dan Mcgrath spoke about how the department’s homicide section works crime scenes.

The Metropolitan Police Department was notified of the threats about 8:40 p.m., Lt. Peter Kisfalvi said.

A bomb-sniffing dog checked the restaurant, located at 750 S. Rampart Blvd. in the Boca Park shopping center. It was found to be all clear late Saturday, Kisfalvi said.

His presentation was part of the museum’s free Community Safety Forum series. The monthly talks are a joint effort between Metro and the Mob Museum and are sponsored by NV Energy.

Mcgrath touched on how patrol officers preserve crime scenes, locate witnesses and relay information to crime scene investigators and homicide detectives. He also discussed how investigators use social media and cellphone tracking to catch killers.

The next event, Sept. 17, will cover emergency preparedness.
