Glennon, Bears step forward but fall back

QB solid; WR Meredith lost to injury

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Mike Glennon capped an opening 96-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown pass to tight end Dion Sims to help the Chicago Bears to a 19-7 preseason win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

Glennon was 11 of 18 passing for 134 yards despite losing starting wide receiver Cameron Meredith late in the first quarter. Meredith was carted off with a suspected left ACL injury, which coach John Fox said must be checked by an MRI examination.

Meredith led Chicago with 66 catches for 888 yards last season.

Rookie Mitchell Trubisky, the second overall draft pick out of North Carolina, opened the third quarter with the Bears’ starters. He threw two incompletions as the Bears (2-1) went three-and-out.

Trubisky also fumbled a snap on his next series but rebounded with a 45-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tanner Gentry for a 19-7 fourth-quarter lead.

The offensive struggles by the Titans (1-2) prompted coach Mike Mularkey to keep his first-team in until Marcus Mariota threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to running back Derrick Henry on the first play of the fourth quarter.

Mariota finished 12 of 21 for 193 yards passing but was just 7 of 13 for 106 in the first half.

■ At Minneapolis, Brian Hoyer was 12 of 17 passing for 176 yards and two touchdowns for San Francisco (1-2) before a host of backups rallied Minnesota (2-1) to victory.

An unchallenged starter for the first time in his nine-year career, Hoyer finished with a 143.3 passer rating. He completed his first nine passes.

Hoyer found Marquise Goodwin wide open for a 46-yard touchdown strike and Carlos Hyde out of the backfield for a 24-yard TD connection, evidence of how new coach Kyle Shanahan’s scheme could pick up the pace after the 49ers were one of the league’s lowest-scoring teams the past three years.

■ At Landover, Md., Chris Smith and rookies Jordan Willis and Carl Lawson each sacked Kirk Cousins, who was 10 of 19 passing for 109 yards and an interception for Washington (1-2).

The Redskins’ first-team offense, which totaled 1 yard in the first quarter, has nine three-and-outs on 15 preseason possessions.

Jeremy Hill ran for 15 yards a touchdown for Cincinnati (1-2) before his day was cut short by an ankle injury. Teammate Giovani Bernard ran for 25 yards on four carries in his first game since tearing the ACL in his left knee last season.
