Women’s soccer player earns national plaudits

For the third straight week, a UNLV women’s soccer player made an appearance on Top Drawer Soccer’s National Team of the Week as junior transfer Caitlyn Kreutz was one of 11 players from around the nation to earn a spot on the squad.

Kreutz, originally from Clovis, Calif., is in her first year with the Rebels after transferri­ng from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and earned a starting spot in the attack prior to the beginning of the 2017 season. She already has registered two goals and one assist through six games.

Her best performanc­e came over the weekend in Sunday’s contest at California-davis, where she assisted on Michaela Morris’ first-half goal and then scored what was eventually the gamewinner in the second half of the 2-1 victory over the Aggies. in the media poll and received the other first-place vote. Defending champion Clemson moved up to No. 3 on Tuesday. Penn State is No. 4 and Oklahoma moved up

No. 5, meaning for the second straight week there will be a topfive matchup. The Sooners play at Ohio State on Saturday.

■ Central Florida: Memphis’ opening game at Central Florida was moved up a day as a precaution to avoid any potential disruption by Hurricane Irma.

Central Florida announced Tuesday that the home game against the Tigers will be played on Friday at Spectrum Stadium, starting at 3:30 p.m. PDT. The American Athletic Conference opener for both teams was originally scheduled for Saturday night at 8 p.m.
