Fire guts lounge on ‘Bar Rescue’

Firefighters battled a Thursday morning fire at an east Las Vegas strip mall.

A police officer patrolling the area just before 4 a.m. reported seeing smoke coming from the roof of the commercial center at 5075 E. Bonanza Road, near Nellis Boulevard, according to Las Vegas Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski.

The building housed a bar, a restaurant and dentist office.

Shortly after the first unit arrived, a second crew was dispatched.

Heavy smoke billowed from the building as crews broke through the roof.

The fire “gutted” the Regan Lounge, Szymanski said. A Google search revealed that the Regan Lounge recently had been on the television program “Bar Rescue,” a reality show focused on revamping struggling bars.

A call to the bar’s owner was not returned.

The dentist office suffered moderate damage, Szymanski said.

The blaze appeared to have started in the attic of the building over the Regan Lounge, he said. Fire investigators were at the scene.

No injuries were reported. Crews knocked down the fire in about 30 minutes.
