Kansas City, Mo., Jorge Polanco hit a two-out, two-run single to cap Minnesota’s three-run rally in the ninth off ailing closer Kelvin Herrera (3-3), who has been dealing with a mild forearm strain. two-run single as the Nationals won their fourth straight. Jorge Alfaro and Tommy Joseph homered for Philadelphia.
■ Cubs 8, Pirates 2 — At Pittsburgh, Albert Almora Jr. hit a two-run homer for Chicago, which had eight extra-base hits among its 13 hits in backing Jon Lester (10-7), who allowed one run on five hits over six innings.
■ Mets 7, Reds 2 — At New
York, rookie Brandon Nimmo went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, a solo shot and a double for New York, which won for the third time in four games and halted Cincinnati’s threegame win streak.
■ Braves 6, Marlins 5 — At Atlanta, Kurt Suzuki capped Atlanta’s two-run ninth with an
RBI single. Rookie Ozzie Albies’ RBI double earlier in the inning saddled Brad Ziegler (1-4) with his fourth blown save in 13 chances.
■ Padres 3, Cardinals 0 — At San Diego, closer Brad Hand struck out Dexter Fowler on a slider in the dirt with the bases loaded to cap San Diego’s win. Hand had allowed three singles before notching his 16th save.
