Rebels running back Thomas honored with weekly award
UNLV junior running back Lexington Thomas was one of seven players honored this week by the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award.
Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was the national player of the week for the award while Thomas was honorable mention along with five others.
Thomas, a graduate of Benjamin Davis High School in Houston, rushed for a career-high 190 yards and three touchdowns to lead UNLV to a 44-16 victory at Idaho Saturday. His 17 carries included scoring runs of 62 and 60 yards during an electrifying third quarter for the Texan.
UNLV has a bye this week before heading to play Ohio State September 23.
■ Women’s golf: UNLV carded a three-round score of 17-over 881 to finish in a tie for 11th with Arizona at the University of New Mexico’s Dick Mcguire/branch Law Firm Invitational in Albuquerque. The Rebels shot a 9-over 297 in Tuesday’s final round at UNM’S Championship Golf Course (par 72, 6,317 yards) after entering the day in a tie for ninth at 8-under.
Senior Mackenzie Raim, who sat in a tie for eighth at 1-under after day one, was UNLV’S top finisher at tied for 10th after an even final round. Playing in her first tournament as a Rebel, freshman Cathy Liu nabbed her first top-20 finish, carding a 54-hole score of 3-over 219 to tie for 20th.

Zhu will begin her junior year at No. 83 in singles in the Oracle ITA National Preseason Rankings.
Zhu, who was named All-mountain West for the second straight season after posting a 22-6 mark in singles last spring, is the lone Rebel ranked this fall.
