Bruins sign forward Pastrnak, 21, to six-year, $40M contract

The Boston Bruins signed right wing David Pastrnak to a six-year contract worth $40 million. The 21-year-old restricted free agent had career highs with 34 goals, 70 points and a plus-11 last season.

A native of the Czech Republic, Pastrnak was a first-round pick in the 2014 draft.

He will make $6.67 million a season. He’ll be the Bruins’ third highest-paid forward after centers David Krejci ($7.25 million) and Patrice Bergeron ($6.87 million).

■ Wild: Minnesota agreed to terms with restricted free-agent left wing Marcus Foligno on a four-year, $11.5 million contract. The 26-year-old was acquired June 30 from Buffalo, where he had 13 goals, 57 blocked shots and 279 hits last season.

■ Senators: Left wing Clarke Macarthur, 32, failed his training camp physical examinatio­n. He sustained a concussion during training camp last year and failed a baseline test in January before returning to notch nine points in 19 playoff games.

■ Blues: Noel Picard, the former defenseman pictured in the famous shot of Boston star Bobby Orr flying through the air after scoring a Stanley Cup-winning goal, died last week at 78 after a long battle with cancer, his former team said.

■ Maple Leafs: Toronto re-signed freeagent defenseman Roman Polak, 31, to a profession­al tryout. He had a serious leg injury in the playoffs after playing in 75 regularsea­son games with the Leafs last season.

■ Jets: Center Bryan Little, 29, signed a sixyear extension with Winnipeg, with an average annual value of $5.29 million. He had 21 goals and 26 assists in 59 games last season.
