Early peek at new spot at Monte Carlo

-

The new Monte Carlo restaurant Primrose is having a soft opening as part of the property’s transition to Park MGM. In this case, that means just a preview menu is being offered, with the centerpiece grill and garden unavailable until the late-october grand opening. But you can taste the Southern French, vegetable-forward cuisine of Bryce Shuman, whose New York restaurant, Betony, has been racking up the plaudits.

And the winner is …

Momofuku’s Shaun King was the winner of the Back of the House Brawl latenight cooking competition Saturday night at Sparrow + Wolf. He defeated China Poblano’s Richard Heredia in a hard-fought battle using “mystery” ingredients revealed just before they started their 30-minute contest: ostrich eggs, truffled dwarf pears, red peppercorns, jicama and marigold flowers. The next Brawl is Oct. 14 at Urban Seed.

Sake bar at Yui Edomae

Since opening in 2015, the off-strip gem Yui Edomae has offered some of Las Vegas’ most exquisite — and expensive — sushi. The intimate restaurant has opened an even more intimate sake bar that offers small, more affordable tastes of the chef ’s non-sushi creations. The menu at the 15-seat Tsuya includes small bites of abalone, A5 wagyu, ice cream and more for $5 to $20.

Other Mama adds room

Popular west side spot Other Mama has added a private dining room. Chef/owner Dan Krohmer wants to use the space for everything from wine dinners to office parties, communal dinners open to the public and personalized meals for an off-the-menu VIP experience.
