Twins 8, Indians 6 — At Cleveland, Brian Dozier’s threerun homer in the eighth inning pushed Minnesota to the brink of a playoff berth as the Twins handed Cleveland just its third loss in 32 games. Minnesota’s magic number for clinching a playoff berth is one.

Astros 14, Rangers 3 — At Arlington, Texas, Carlos Correa, Brian Mccann and Cameron Maybin had three RBIS each and Dallas Keuchel (14-5) allowed one earned run in six innings as Houston clinched no worse than the second-best record in the AL.

Angels 9, White Sox 3

— At Chicago, Mike Trout hit his 31st homer, Albert Pujols joined Alex Rodriguez as the only players with 100 RBIS in 14 seasons, and fading Los Angeles remained five games out of the second AL wild card.

Mariners 6, Athletics 3 — At Oakland, Calif., Seattle’s Danny Valencia hit a three-run homer against his former team and fellow ex-oakland slugger Yonder Alonso added a two-run shot as Seattle won its eighth straight against the Athletics.

Royals 2, Tigers 1 — At Kansas City, Mo., Jason Vargas (18-10) tied for the major league lead in victories, lifting Kansas City to a win. Vargas gave up a run in six innings to match Corey Kluber and Clayton Kershaw for most wins in the majors.

Blue Jays 9, Red Sox 4 — At Boston, Chris Sale (17-8) matched a career worst by giving up four home runs in a playoff tuneup, including a pair to Josh Donaldson, and Boston’s magic number to win the AL East is three. At Los Angeles, Corey Seager homered and drove in four runs and Los Angeles clinched homefield advantage in the playoffs through the NL Championsh­ip Series. Yasmani Grandal drove in three runs for the Dodgers.

Cardinals 8, Cubs 7 — At St. Louis, Tommy Pham and Randal Grichuk homered and drove in two runs each and St. Louis denied Chicago a chance at clinching the NL Central. Matt Carpenter and Jedd Gyorko also homered for the Cardinals.

Rockies 6, Marlins 0 — At Denver, Trevor Story hit a threerun homer and Spring Valley product Tyler Anderson (6-6) allowed four hits over seven superb innings, helping Colorado maintain its lead for the second NL wild card.

Brewers 7, Reds 6 — At Milwaukee, Domingo Santana hit an early three-run homer and Milwaukee kept pace in the playoff race by holding off Cincinnati. The Brewers remained

Diamondbac­ks 11, Giants 4 — At Phoenix, J.D. Martinez hit a grand slam and drove in six runs, leading Arizona to a win one day after it clinched home-field advantage in the NL wild-card game. Martinez’s six RBIS tied a career high.

Mets 4, Braves 3 — At

New York, Travis Taijeron singled home the winning run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning and New York rallied late to beat Atlanta. The Mets trailed 3-0 in the seventh.
